The Medicare Diabetes Prevention Program gives people at risk for type 2 diabetes coaching and support to make healthy changes that can last.
You do not need a doctor's referral to join an MDPP program. The program will confirm your eligibility before you begin.
What is the Medicare Diabetes Prevention Program?
The Medicare Diabetes Prevention Program helps people who have prediabetes lower their chance of getting type 2 diabetes.
You work with a trained coach and learn simple ways to:
- Eat healthier
- Be more active
- Manage your weight
- Build healthy habits that can last
The program starts with weekly sessions. Later, sessions happen about once a month.
If you qualify, Medicare pays for the program and you pay $0.
Who may qualify?
You may qualify if:
- You have Medicare Part B.
- A blood test in the last 12 months shows that you have prediabetes.
- Your BMI meets Medicare's requirement.
- You have not been diagnosed with type 1 or type 2 diabetes.
- You do not currently have an eligibility issue related to End-Stage Renal Disease.
